Abstract Snowflake "Melt" No.1

Part of our large format wall art collection, we present Abstract Snowflake "Melt" Number 1. This is our most ambitious piece of art to date, comprising over 100 hrs. of work. 

The foundation of this piece came from barn recovered beams of Black Walnut. A singular oversized beam was re-sawed and joined to form the massive slab for the carving, the remainder was used to fabricate the frame. The carving itself is both angular and flowing curves, evoking both the beauty of the snowflake as well as the sadness of its decay. Extreme care has been exercised to ensure that the pattern of the grain was harmonious with the undulating carving. By working in concert with what nature created, we believe that the grain itself adds phenomenal depth to this piece.

 Seven coats of alternating sheen lacquers helps capture the light differently at every viewing angle. In a departure from our artist normal style of satin sheens, this piece is finalized in a semi gloss finish to help capture the liquid feeling of the melt.

This piece is mounted to a white vegan leather backer, with a 1/4" standoff to entice shadows to form in different lighting. The outer frame is a sleek band of crisp lines in juxtaposition to the carving itself. The back is fitted with an acid free art paper cover, and a stainless wire hanger.

As with all of our large format and commissioned pieces, the back has an engraved block with the number of the piece and the artist signature. In addition, a placard card with the same information.

This piece is very heavy, weighing in at over 23lbs. Please take this into consideration for hanging or displaying purposes.
